JM&C Department Open House

The Department of Journalism, Media & Computing invites all students and alums to an open house on Thursday, January 12 from 5:00 to 7:00. The Open House will take place on the 2nd floor of Hitchcock and showcase the new iPad wall and faculty/student creative works. This is a great opportunity to find out what is going on in the department and to share ideas about future directions. Light refreshments and door prizes will be provided.

U.S. Tech Employment Nears All-Time High

Computerworld (12/02/11) The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the U.S. technology industry added 7,100 jobs in November, an increase of .17 percent over October. The increase raises the overall tech industry employment to 4.068 million, up 2.1 percent from a year ago, and near its all-time high of 4.088 million workers set in June 2008. In addition, a recent study by Yoh Services found that wages for highly skilled tech workers increased by 6.85 percent in September 2011 compared to September 2010. According to the U.S. Federal Reserve, high levels of unemployment kept wage gains down in most sectors, “the primary exception was workers in information technology fields, such as software developers, who continue to see high levels of recruiting activity and significant wage increases.”

JM&C Welcome Reception

On Wednesday, August 31, the Department of Journalism, Media & Computing will be holding a reception to kick off the semester. Come and find out about the big merger that occurred this summer, future plans for facilities and curricula, and how it all affects you. This is a great chance to meet and talk with faculty and fellow students, and to get any questions answered.

The reception will be from 4:30 to 6:00 in Hitchcock 204. There will be refreshments and prizes for attendees!

Joel’s Adventures in Italy

This year I decided to keep a travel photo blog while teaching for the Cagli Marquette Workshop in Italy. Most of the photos were taken with an iPhone 4, and I still have a ton of photos to edit and entries to create on the site.
